Biography
Steve Black was born and raised in Oshawa, Ontario. He attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario where he studied Mining Engineering. These studies led him to Timmins to work at Kidd Mine. He currently resides in Timmins with his partner Madison Killins and their 3 kids; Jenna, Connor and Harlow.
Steve Black has served multiple terms in municipal politics. From 2010 to 2014 he was a councillor for the City of Timmins. He then went on to run for Mayor in 2014 and became the youngest person elected as Mayor in the history of Timmins.
In 2018, he returned to the local mining industry where he worked as Project Manager for Kidd Mine’s Mine 5 Expansion Project. In 2022, Steve accepted a position at Dumas Contracting Ltd where he continues to work as Manager of Business Development, Marketing & Community Relations. He also returned to municipal politics in 2022 in the role of City Councillor for Timmins.
Throughout his municipal career, Steve has held many leadership positions on community boards including the Timmins Police Service Board, Cochrane District Social Services Board (responsible for EMS, housing, childcare, and Ontario Works programs in the region), Timmins Economic Development Corporation, Porcupine Health Unit, Timmins and District Hospital, Mattagami Region Conservation Authority, and Timmins Downtown BIA.
Steve hopes his past experience and leadership roles allow him to support communities across the Kapuskasing-Timmins-Muskegowuk Riding. He hopes to take his experience in municipal politics and within the mining sector to Parliament to serve the people of Kapsukasing-Timmins-Mushkegowuk under the Liberal Party of Canada.
